FRCC Hockey History

The FRCC began competition in boys hockey in the 2010-11 season. In that first year eight teams competed for the Conference Championship.  Those teams included:  Ashwaubenon, Bay Port, De Pere Co-op, Green Bay United, Manitowoc Co-op, Notre Dame Academy, Pulaski/Shawano Co-op and Sheboygan Co-op. The Conference Championship was shared by Ashwaubenon and Notre Dame that first season.

From 2010-11 through 2015-16 the FRCC Champion was determined by points accumulated through conference games.  Two points for a win, one point for a tie and zero points for a loss.  Notre Dame won or shared the Conference Championship five of those first six years.  Bay Port broke that streak by winning the Championship outright in 2015-16.  The Pirates also shared the title with Notre Dame in 2014-15.

The conference make-up has changed throughout the years.  In 2011-12 and 2012-13 Manitowoc could not field a varsity team and in 2011-12 the Pulaski/Shawano Co-op disbanded.  Manitowoc returned to varsity competition in 2013-14 but was again out in 2014-15.  The last year for Green Bay United was the 2017-18 season and with that departure the FRCC remained at five teams competing in boys Hockey with a make-up that included:  Ashwaubenon Co-op, Bay Port, De Pere Co-op, Notre Dame Academy and Sheboygan Co-op.  The 2024-25 season will see Manitowoc once again return to Conference play giving the FRCC six teams competing in hockey.

In 2016-17 the members of the FRCC competing in hockey decided to change how the Conference Champion is determined and since that time an end of season tournament has determined the Conference Champion.  Teams are seeded for the Conference Tournament by how they finish in the dual meet season.  The Bay Port Pirates broke Notre Dame Academy’s streak of four consecutive FRCC Championships by defeating the Tritons in the 2023-24 conference tournament.

In 2017-18 the WIAA disqualified the Notre Dame Academy hockey team and their Conference Championship was vacated by the FRCC.

An FRCC champion was not recognized in the 2020-21 season because of the Covid pandemic.

Notre Dame Academy is the two time defending Division 1 WIAA State Hockey Champion.  They have three state titles overall and a runner-up finish.
